Selecting trials 2004
On the weekend of August 7th and 8th, Oakville Model Association hosted this year's Canadian F3A team selecting trials. Harry Ells was the CD and Jim Eichenberg along with the help of other club members ran the flight line, checked competitor flight times, did the sound checking, and ran the scoring computer system. This years representation was broad in scope as pilots from as far away as Victoria BC. showed up to compete. In fact there was representation from Quebec, Ontario, Calgary, BC, and Saskatchewan. Over the two day contest, each pilot put in 6 flights and the final scoring was based on the best 3 flights. Weather on the first day of competition was mostly cloudy and included a few drips of precipitation in the morning hours. Also it was rather cool with temperatures starting out in the mid "teens" warming up through the day. The wind was 90 degrees crosswind blowing in and shifting from one way to the other. Although it was mostly calm on the first day, the shifting of wind direction made stalls and spins difficult at times. Day two was a totally different story as far as wind was concerned. The wind started early and picked up as the contest came to a close. The final two rounds were flown with heavy 90 degree crosswind blowing in.
