Oakville 2006

Oakville is one of my favorite contests. The contest is put on my Jim Eikenberg each year and is located just outside of Oakville Ontario ( west of Toronto). It is just about the closest contest to me here in Kingston, about a 3 hour drive. The field is beautiful and belongs to an active R/C club. This club has been responsible for producing some of the worlds top F3A flyers. Names like Greg Marsden, Ivan Kristensen, and Collin Campbell to name but a few in recent years. In the past few years numbers have been in the decline for this contest. A lack of new people coming into the sport is part of the problem and conflicts in dates with other American contests has been another problem.

This year we had fantastic weather to fly in. Sunburn weather with light winds. Below are some shots of planes and people.

As you will see in some photo's below there was a very interesting vehicle and trailer that arrived early on Saturday. Most pilots drooled in envy and scratched their heads wondering if what we were seeing was real or not. I was most impressed by the Smart Car / trailer combination. Ron Francis of Clarksburg, Ontario is the creator of the trailer. It is tailor made for R/C planes with features such as but not limited to special suspension, molded interior with modular, removable storage compartments, it is lightweight and matches the color of the Smart Car. What else would you need? I WANT ONE.

Electrics have not yet penetrated the pattern scene at the local contest level here in the Ontario region. There is an interest stirring as more people are exposed to it each year and the prices are beginning to fall for batteries. Xavier and me were the only ones electrified this year. Next year I am aware of several others switching over.
If you are interested in one of these... I have to find out if he got around to mass producing these yet. e-mail me and I'll find out.
