Batteries and Charging
New arrivals for me in the 2007 Season are Thunderpower 5000 Mah extreme 10 S packs. What is nice about these packs (other than more power) is that it is a single unit all shrink wrapped. These are a bit more heavy than the 5300 packs that come in a 5 S configuration. (Two 5300 packs are required to make a set)
I weighed and compared the 5300's and the 5000's.
| Two TP 5300 Prolite | 2.47lb | 39.54 oz | 1121.0g |
| One TP 5000 extreeme | 2.65 lb | 42..46 oz | 1204.0g |
For the moment I have both the 5300's and the 5000's running in the same plane. I have just made two different trays for my Prestige so I can use both battery types. Battery placement is definetly different to make the same balance.
This charger is not new to me this year however it is a sweet system. It will charge two 5300's at a time or a 5000 extreme pack all at once. This system of charging ensures that batteries are charged to the same level as using different chargers on a set could potentially cause imbalance. The display shows a great deal of information including a readout of each individual battery voltage. You use the Thuderpower balancer while charging and in this way you get feedback from the batteries.
This is the Thunderpower balancer that you use in conjuction with the charger above. You can balance a battery set without charging, or use the balancer while charging.
These are the connectors that I am using these days. There is no way that you will make a mistake connecting these things to your system. the "D" shape of the connector is foolproof. Yes, it is the most expensive choice out there but I like it.
